What is the origin story of your business?
Both of our businesses (Posh Palma Styles and Raices Media) have their very own unique story. Stories that are to be told. Stories of impact, womanhood, leadership, and service. Posh Palma Styles originated as a space for us to pour our creativity into a platform that was solely here to inspire women to feel confident in their own skin through pieces that are handcrafted in the Dominican Republic. To the same effect, Raices Media, our creative collective, was established during the midst of the pandemic as a tool to provide impact-driven businesses with a one-stop shop for marketing services and resources so they can in turn elevate their digital presence. Within the two businesses, we have been able to witness the magic that happens when the work you do is rooted in serving others.
What is your favorite thing about being a small business owner?
One of the things that we love the most about being small business owners is that we truly get to connect with our community. Over the years, we have been able to cultivate a strong relationship with our audience and for us, there is nothing better than that.
What is your best piece of advice for fellow business owners?
A great piece of advice we have received is to always pour into our cups whether that is through small acts of kindness, self-care days, and more. The entrepreneurial journey can oftentimes consume you and take a toll on your well-being and because of that, we are constantly reminding ourselves that self-care is an essential component of what we do and that our cups shall always be filled with the very best of us.
Tell us about a great program, organization, or opportunity that really helped you and your business.
Recently we were given the opportunity to be part of the #WeAllGrow Summit in Palm Springs, CA as one of the 20 Latina Makers in their successful market. Access and connection are among the challenges we face with running a product based business. Posh Palma Styles is fully digital and we have to create that personal relationship with our community. Our story is beautiful and unique to our own. While at the Summit we connected with hundreds of Latina’s who were willing to uplift, support, and empower other Latina’s in the room, and that was simply dope and magical. This experience helped us elevate our connection and granted us access to influential people, businesses, brands and creators that are now interested in partnering with us at Posh Palma Styles.
Tell us about a major business challenge that you overcame.
Lack of staffing was a major challenge we faced at Raices Media recently. Let’s take it back to circa 2020-2021 when we were navigating uncharted waters and trying to do it all on our own as we were building from scratch a business and its infrastructure. Little did we know that systems and processes would be two things that would set us up for long term success. It was time to buckle up and invest in the proper training and coaching program designed to structure and mold your business and/or brand to succeed at the level we would want it too. Mid-year we were swimming above water and could see the light. We hired our first part-time employee and have learned that delegating and working in our true zone of genius is what will allow us to design the life of our dreams.
